Durham Castle
Durham Castle is a vast medieval period World Site complex which has been occupied continuously since the 11th centry. During this period there have been many additions and alterations to the structure which create a millenium spanning character.
Now managed by Durham University (via the Durham Castle Society), parts of the structure including walls and windows are in the prcoess of long-term restoration.
During Spring 2024, two of our team helped to restore a series of 18 windows over 3 floors at the prestigious Durham Castle. We used a new infrared system to remove the old paint from the frames and the window units. Using this modern paint stripping technology allowed us to preserve as much as possible of the existing wood components.
The outside of the frames were then varnished and the inside primed.
