Heanor Grammar School
Heanor Grammar School was instituted in 1893 as Heanor Technical School. Over the next 100 years, it has had a few different names, but always been involved in education. It acquired Grade-II listed status in 1988 and in 2013 was finally vacated as a school due to dwindling pupil numbers.
The story didn’t end there, as developers Vale Property Limited then purchased the school building in 2016 and finally the local Amber Valley council purchased the property in 2021. It is with them that funds have been placed to restore the building for the next generation.
Started in Autumn 2023 and still ongoing, we are tasked with the mammoth project of refurbishing 174 sash windows in varying states of disrepair.
As part of a £8 million pound regeneration scheme overseen by the local council, we are part of many traditional skilled trades involved with this restoration.
This includes the replacement of 1800 panes of glass and counting. We are working together with the architects and they specified to use of modern double-glazed units. We are proud to be involved with such an important project. Upon conclusion of the project, the school will become council offices ready for the next generation.
