Joinery & Timber Works
We specialize in restoring various timber-made components of period and listed buildings with a meticulous attention to detail, preserving their architectural heritage. The joinery refurbishment process involves thorough surveys and the precise execution of traditional techniques using premium materials, ensuring the longevity of each piece.
Staircase and handrails – made from a wide range of materials (usually oak or mahogany), we often find various parts of them in need of replacement or to be made structurally sound. We can replace whole spindles and make them fit the unique design of the original. If handrail components need replacing, we can get these carved to fit the exact specification.
Fireplaces, surrounds and mantle pieces – this is a particularly complex part of our work with few repeated examples from project to project. We love working on these unique designs and restoring them.
Panelling – removing and restoring panels requires a lot of delicate care and understanding of how they were made and fitted. We recently restored a beautiful starburst veneered feature panel.
Sash windows – sash windows form a major part of our business, please see our dedicated page all about this.
In addition, we employ traditional joinery techniques to repair and reinforce timber structures, addressing issues while preserving the original aesthetic appeal. This craftsmanship ensures optimal function and authentic appearance for years to come.
We also utilize advanced epoxy resin for some repairs, ensuring seamless integration with the original timber while providing added strength and durability. Conservation joints are carefully implemented to enhance structural stability without compromising the historical authenticity.
We have many years of experience working with all manner of wooden structures, statues and decorative pieces. Each has their own joinery intricacies and it is often the case that there will have to be a process of discovery to understand how a particular craft person original built the work piece. Our expertise is in understanding how to restore what appears to be degraded or damaged.
