Most window restoration projects will involve some form of re-glazing. This is a highly skilled activity which requires patience and has many nuances. On some of our larger projects, we will replace hundreds of panes.
Green Key can expertly fit new glass into old existing timber windows on period and listed buildings, combining modern technology with traditional craftsmanship. Our processes involve carefully assessing the existing windows, removing old glass, and fitting new modern glass that enhances energy efficiency, security, and aesthetics.
Introducing new modern glass into old timber windows offers a range of benefits. Modern glass options, such as double or triple glazing improve insulation, reducing heat loss and energy consumption.
Additionally, modern glass provides enhanced security features, including strengthened materials and advanced locking mechanisms, improving the safety of the property. Furthermore, new glass options offer improved noise reduction.
Green Key utilizes both new and traditional methods, such as linseed putty, to fit new glass into existing timber windows. We can also fit like for like glass such as heritage, P1 and C1.
More heat is lost from leakage through the gaps around sash windows than can be saved by trying to double-glaze your existing sashes, which in many cases won’t be possible anyway. A 1mm gap around a window measuring 1.8 metres by 1.2 metres equates to a gap of over 11 square inches!
